Don Finkbeiner of the Heartland International Sports Division has organized 75 hockey tours to Europe during the last 25 years. As a result, we are familiar with most areas and can assist you in establishing a great hockey holiday. Following are some sample itineraries of several tours. These tours will give you an idea of what can be arranged for your team. Basically, a tour can be customized specifically for you, taking into consideration the areas you wish to visit, the length of tour you want, your budget and the number of games you wish to play.
The basic tour includes: air fare, accommodation on a twin basis in good tourist class hotels with private facilities, breakfast daily, transportation throughout Europe by private bus, all sightseeing tours, exhibition games, a tour escort and a full day of skiing with equipment and lift tickets if in the Alps region. Should you want other inclusions they can be provided. A very important feature is that we arrange a get together with your European opposition after each game. In this way you can meet the other team and discuss hockey and other common interests. For your information the price for the 2006 Lakers Hockey Club was $3800.00 for 15 persons paying. If 20 persons had been paying it would have been about $3600. These prices were based on a weak Canadian dollar and strengthening of the dollar will bring down the price. I must emphasize that the price will depend upon many factors including length of stay, inclusions, the number of participants and the value of the Canadian dollar in Europe.
We acquire the best airfare possible and may or may not provide any free seats as it will depend on the airline, day of service and routing.
Concerning the caliber of play we do all that we can to ensure that you are matched with teams of similar ability. We require that you provide as much information as possible concerning your team, such as average age, and highest level at which each individual has played. We send this information to each team in Europe. We also emphasize the rules emphasize the rules of play such as no body checking or no slap shot, whatever you wish. These are re emphasized prior to the actual game. Also, I have kept records of all games for more than 20 years and have a very good idea of the hockey levels in the various regions and countries. For example, a good oldtimer team could play division 4 or even division 3 in Germany, Switzerland and Italy or a similar aged oldtimer team. In Austria they could play division 3 or 2.
Below are three examples of Europe tours. Further, I have enclosed a reference list of hockey teams that have traveled. This will give you an idea of our great European experience.
